Meet: Ibukun Omotowa

Ibukun Omotowa recently earned his Master’s of Fine Arts in Acting from the Florida State University/Asolo Repertory Theater’s Conservatory for Actor Training.

Having recently originated the role of Jamal in the World Premier of Nia Akilah Robinson’s From 145th to 98th Street (Urbanite Theater), Ibukun continues to passionately pursue layered and compelling stories that center us. Past stage roles include: Alvin in the Asolo Repertory Theater’s production of Goodnight Oscar, Montrellous in Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’s, Lord Capulet in Shakespeare’s:

Romeo and Juliet, and Flip in Lydia Diamond’s Stick Fly - a performance that earned him the Best Performer in a Play Award from BroadwayWorld in 2024. With his early acting roots in the Atlanta film scene, Ibukun has starred in a number of award winning short and independent films, with Fatima Diallo’s Pink Isn’t Your Color (Official Selection, World Film Festival in Cannes) being the most recent.

A MULTI-HYPHENATE

A multi-hyphenate at heart, Ibukun is currently authoring stories whose narratives surround the intersections of African Diaspora, spirituality, and Afro-futurism.

Ibukun’s storytelling aspirations are also intercontinental, which led him to complete a director’s assistantship at DSTV Nigeria in 2024.

Before he caught the acting bug, Ibukun obtained his B.A. in History and Molecular Biology from Harvard University, and a citation in the Yoruba language. He also walked on to the Harvard men’s soccer team, and earned Ivy League Letterman status. Ibukun ‘s dedication to being a jack of many trades led him to be actively engaged in the Harvard Institute of Politics, the Harvard Black Men’s Forum, and the Radcliffe College Research Institute to name a few. Across these interests, Ibukun's contribution and dedication would have him constantly address the intersections of race, the historical status quo, and building community. From helping lead protests on campus, to mentoring with the historied David Walker Scholars program, to conducting research concerning the Boston Civil Rights movement, to becoming a member of the illustrious Theta Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, Ibukun's demonstrated desire to be a changemaker for the black community are paramount to his identity, mission, and goals both personally and professionally.

-Born in Ilorin, Nigeria, and raised in Idaho Falls, ID, Ibukun is a stage and film actor. Before joining the Conservatory, he spent three years in Atlanta, GA, where he immersed himself in the world of filmmaking, working on over 20 short and feature films while working as a project manager. Prior to his adventures in the entertainment industry, Ibukun obtained his BA in History and Molecular Biology from Harvard University.
